As a kid, I was mystified watching my Papaw make predictions with his pendulum. He grew up poor, and there were no metaphysical stores (or even Five Belows) around here in those days anyways.
His pendulum was made of stuff he grabbed out of his junk drawer. A needle and thread jabbed into the eraser end of a pencil is what I remember best, and it served him just fine–although most folks wouldn’t have recognized its purpose unless they saw it in use.
It blew my mind the first time I saw a pendulum for sale in a store. I thought it was just a Papaw thing! I have a few of them around–those standard issue conical crystals hanging from a chain with a round bead handle. Nothing wrong with ’em, but I can never quite connect with them the way I do with the one I made from Mamaw’s broken necklace chain.
Now, that probably reveals more about me than the pendulums. But it was a driving force behind the creation of my skeleton key pendulums.
